Tech Lead - Travel & Expense - Inside IR35
Our client, a global Insurance broker, are currently looking to hire a Tech Lead with Travel & Expense experience to join the team on a contract basis.
As the ideal candidate you will be a skilled and delivery-focused Tech Lead to oversee the technical implementation of travel and expense related systems and integrations. This role will lead the definition of technical requirements, coordinate build and testing activities, and manage deployment across platforms including Duty of Care tooling, online booking systems, expense management, and ERP integrations.
You will work closely with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless delivery of travel and expense technology solutions that meet business needs and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical delivery of technology solutions, including Online Booking Tool (OBT), Travel Management systems, Expense Management Solutions, and Duty of Care (DOC) platforms.
- Define and document end-to-end technical requirements in collaboration with business stakeholders and IT teams.
- Coordinate build and configuration activities across internal development teams and third-party vendors.
- Oversee system integration with expense management platforms, ERP systems, and other enterprise applications.
- Plan and manage all testing phases, including unit, system, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring quality and compliance.
- Ensure technical solutions adhere to enterprise architecture standards, security policies, and global IT governance.
- Develop and execute deployment plans, coordinating go-live activities across multiple regions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during build, testing, and deployment phases.
- Monitor system performance post-deployment, ensuring scalability, reliability, and user experience optimisation.
- Support data migration, validation, and reconciliation activities as required.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and constraints, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with support teams to ensure smooth handover and post-deployment stability.
Experience & Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in technical delivery or solution architecture roles.
- Proven experience implementing travel systems, booking tools and expense platforms.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and integration patterns (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Solid knowledge of system development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
- Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing third-party vendors and technical partners.
- Familiarity with data security, GDPR and compliance standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in technical documentation and requirements gathering.
- Experience with API integrations, middleware and cloud platforms.
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a busy environment.
- Certification in project management or technical architecture (e.g., TOGAF, PMP, Agile) is a plus.
- Experience in global or multi-region implementations is highly desirable.
