Data Engineer - AWS

Wea re currently recruiting for a Data Engineer to join an e-learning business who are using technology for good and making online learning material accessible to the masses. They believe that knowledge should be available and at low prices.

What we're looking for

A Cloud Data Engineer who takes pride in building robust data pipelines, using tools aligned with infrastructure-as-code methodology, and with a keen interest in database design.

As a business they are operating in AWS and want someone who is already familiar with the platform. The Data Warehouse project is in the early stages and there is a lot to do to make data more accessible to Data Analysts and the business. It's an exciting opportunity for someone who likes a challenge!

Data Engineer Requirements

It's the perfect role for you if you have:

  • Hands-on experience creating robust ETL pipelines, using big data tools
  • In-depth knowledge of AWS components, e.g. Redshift, S3, Glue, CloudFormation.
  • Skilled in Data Modelling, with experience designing data warehouse structures and transformations
  • Strong focus on quality control and testing
  • Advanced knowledge of python

It's a plus if you have:

  • Experience working in a start-up environment
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Mode Analytics

What you'll do

Take co-ownership of the big data architecture, working alongside another Data Engineer. Implement data pipelines using AWS Glue and CloudFormation to conclude phase 1 of the data lake implementation.

Design a reporting layer that will support the implementation of a self-service BI tool and allow greater access to data for business users.

Develop a deep understanding of the data they capture - understanding all of the source data and it's idiosyncrasies.

Work collaboratively with the existing data engineer to ensure that the data platform meets our reporting needs and to ensure that the data reported is accurate and complete.
