Test Engineer

About the role

We're recruiting for highly motivated technical and analytical Test Engineers to join our Web Estate Engineering team working to improve our web estate. This comprises of numerous public-facing web sites and applications, providing geospatial products and services to both government and public.

You'll work within an agile team, responsible for designing, writing and implementing automated and manual test suites; to ensure adequate and effective test coverage and provide test assurance of the user stories in a test-first environment.

You will provide assurance at team retrospectives and planning sessions to ensure test best practice, continual improvements and appropriate standards are adhered to.

An opportunity to deliver the test activities to meet the functional and non-functional requirements and ambitions of our stakeholders, whist contributing to effective agile delivery.

You will work closely with Software Engineers in growing and using front-end test automation frameworks using Jest and/or Playwright with node. JS in a CI/CD environment.

This is a technical role and requires knowledge of test automation and the use of relevant frameworks, cloud-based infrastructure testing, API testing, front-end web-based application testing including accessibility, cross-browser testing, security testing, performance and load testing.

We're looking for an individual that can demonstrate skills and experience in:

• Experienced in Software testing & industry best practice
• Proven track record in front-end test automation frameworks with the ability to design and write tests using Jest and/or Playwright
• Experience in languages including Java, JavaScript and/or Node.js
• Analytical skills, designing and implementing tests around BDD feature files for functional test activities
• Background in non-functional testing techniques and tools
• Ability to define and lead on the appropriate end to end test approach
• Experience of Agile methodologies and working closely with engineers, advising on process improvement
• Allocating and prioritising own work and working across multiple delivery teams

Desirable:

• Experience in Coaching and mentoring
• Awareness of geospatial systems and technologies

Location

We adopt a hybrid working model and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend 1 day a month with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home, one of our regional offices or spend more time at HQ.

We are also able to consider offering fully remote contracts in the appropriate circumstances.
