Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Data Product Owner to lead the vision, roadmap and delivery of an ESG / Sustainability Data initiative. This role is ideal for someone who can blend strategic product thinking with deep technical expertise to drive high‑quality data solutions that support sustainability reporting, regulatory compliance and business insight generation.

You'll act as the central point of ownership for the data product-guiding engineering teams, shaping requirements, and ensuring end‑to‑end delivery of robust, scalable, and audit‑ready data capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Product Ownership & Strategy

• Develop and communicate the product vision, roadmap and strategy for Sustainability Data Foundations.
• Translate complex sustainability and business requirements into actionable user stories, clear product decisions, and prioritised backlogs.
• Ensure complete coverage and documentation across the data lifecycle-acquisition, modelling, governance, lineage, quality and integration.

Delivery Leadership

• Coordinate delivery across multiple workstreams and teams, including Data Engineering, Sustainability, Business Analysis, and external partners.
• Oversee backlog prioritisation, sprint planning and cross‑team alignment with a strong focus on delivering value.
• Review deliverables against acceptance criteria to ensure technical quality and alignment to requirements.

Technical Authority

• Provide end‑to‑end technical leadership, validating solution designs and ensuring adherence to best‑practice data engineering patterns.
• Act as the escalation point for complex engineering decisions, resolving disputes and guiding standards for scalable data pipelines and architecture.
• Work closely with architects to ensure architectural decisions align with enterprise‑grade data standards.

Governance & Assurance

• Establish metrics, dashboards and reporting frameworks to track product performance, maturity and delivery progress.
• Ensure that all necessary assurance controls and documentation are in place and audit‑ready.
• Lead detailed solution walkthroughs and support formal assurance processes.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

• Experienced Data Product Owner/Manager in a product‑led environment.
• Experienced with Data Engineering and Data Tools that include Azure, MSM and Power Platform.
• Experience with data platforms, data engineering, analytics, ETL, data modelling, governance, and compliance.
• Proven end‑to‑end ownership of data product lifecycle, with a track record of delivering high‑value outcomes at pace.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills-including working with senior leaders.
• Deep technical expertise in enterprise‑scale data engineering and distributed data pipelines.
• Hands‑on capability equivalent to a Principal Data Engineer, able to troubleshoot complex, cross‑system data issues.

Preferred

• Experience in consumer‑facing or regulated industries such as CPG or healthcare.
• Familiarity with product artefacts such as personas, journeys, leading/lagging metrics and cost‑of‑delay analysis.
• Experience developing and presenting business cases for funding approval.
