Senior Platform Engineer - Manchester (Hybrid) - £85,000 + Bonus

About the Company:

We're working with a rapidly expanding technology company in Manchester that's investing heavily in its platform engineering function to enable growth and modernisation. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping infrastructure automation and advancing DevOps practices, all while being embedded within the Data Team and contributing to platforms that deliver critical analytics and insights.

About the Role

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll collaborate with colleagues across Data, Platform Engineering, Architecture, and Security teams.

Your responsibilities will include designing and automating infrastructure, building CI/CD pipelines, and implementing containerisation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker. You'll also support strategic initiatives like hardware upgrades, scaling for new markets, and enhancing monitoring capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and automate infrastructure for both cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Develop reusable platform components leveraging Kubernetes, Docker, and virtual machines.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows for streamlined delivery.
  • Drive automation to minimise configuration drift and improve reliability.
  • Contribute to cloud governance, security hardening, and operational readiness.
  • Promote DevOps principles and share best practices across teams.

What We're Looking For

  • Solid experience in platform or infrastructure engineering (Linux & Windows).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Proven track record with Kubernetes and Docker in production environments.
  • Strong AWS expertise (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, networking).
  • Bonus: Familiarity with VMware technologies (vSphere, NSX, VCF).
  • Excellent scripting and automation skills.
  • Collaborative approach and adaptability to change.
