2020 promoted digital transformation, accelerated cloud migration, and expedited DevOps adoption as remote workforces prompted a radical shift in how, when and where we work. As we head into the ‘new normal’, we can expect greater adoption of hybrid cloud and multi-cloud as businesses look to maximise both scalability and security.
This will go hand-in-hand with a shift towards microservices and containerization to improve agility in a less rigid environment, as well as further development of new ‘Ops’ practices which fit into the fast lifecycles and mutable needs of our new, more digital, world, including DataOps, MLOps and DevSecOps. At the same time, the emerging trend of chaos engineering shows how the pandemic has infiltrated how we develop, with greater emphasis on testing for change. All of this amounts to a fast-paced environment, where tough skills aren’t only in demand, but are also changing constantly. How can businesses stay ahead?
