Senior Data Engineer

Senior Data Engineer | 6 Month Contract InsideIR35 Up To £600 | Glasgow OR Dundee Hybrid

We're recruiting for a leading client that needs a hands-on, Data Engineer. The focus is optimising PostgreSQL databases where the data volumes are modest but heavily skewed.

The role

• Optimise complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and views in PostgreSQL
• Improve schema design and data modelling for performance
• Manage and troubleshoot Apache Kafka environments, including topics, producers, consumers and message delivery
• Build and maintain automated release pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins and Terraform
• Resolve production issues across the application, database and infrastructure layers
• Work within an Agile/Scrum team

Essential skills

• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including query tuning and performance optimisation
• Hands-on Apache Kafka experience
• Hands-on AWS experience
• GitLab (branching, merge requests, code reviews) and Jenkins pipelines
• CI/CD, release management and deployment automation with Terraform
• Agile/Scrum delivery
