Location: Edinburgh or London (Hybrid)

6 months initial contract with planned extensions in 2027

About the Role

We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team as we stand up new feature teams in 2027 to deliver new technology capabilities in support of our Premier transformation outcomes and goals. This is a foundational role, working closely with our Principal Engineer to establish the engineering practices that will underpin delivery across the programme.

You'll be responsible for demonstrating DevOps technical practices, mentoring, and coaching teams, and showing how to measure, understand, and visualise the flow and delivery of value through the adoption of DevOps tools, technologies, techniques, patterns, and processes - from inception through to technical implementation and delivery.

Working across Platform and Feature teams, you'll be critical to creating the enablers and removing waste through the implementation of DevOps mindsets, behaviours, and technical engineering practices that build trusted pipelines of work from development through to production, underpinned by a high degree of automation.

What You'll Do

• Champion and embed DevOps technical practices across Platform and Feature teams
• Mentor and coach teams in adopting DevOps tools, technologies, techniques, patterns, and processes
• Help teams measure, understand, and visualise the flow and delivery of value through their pipelines
• Partner with the Principal Engineer to establish foundational engineering practices for newly forming feature teams
• Identify and remove waste from development-to-production workflows
• Build and maintain trusted, highly automated pipelines from development through to production environments
• Support the cultural and technical shift toward DevOps mindsets and behaviours across teams
• Contribute hands-on technical expertise from inception through to delivery of new technology capabilities

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience working as a DevOps Engineer, embedding DevOps practices within engineering teams
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling, and modern delivery patterns
• Experience mentoring or coaching engineering teams in DevOps adoption
• Ability to measure and visualise flow and value delivery (e.g. through metrics, dashboards, value stream mapping)
• Comfortable working across both Platform and Feature teams in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
• A pragmatic, hands-on approach to identifying and removing delivery waste
• Experience helping stand up new teams or establishing engineering foundations from scratch is a strong advantage
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence engineering culture and practice
