Database Tech Lead

Manchester | Hybrid Working Up to £105,000 + Benefits

The Opportunity

I'm currently working with a highly successful technology-focused organisation that is investing heavily in its data and platform capabilities. As part of that growth, they're looking to appoint an experienced Database Tech Lead to take ownership of their database landscape, set the technical vision, and help develop a growing team of database professionals.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how database services are designed, managed, and evolved across a business where data underpins critical systems and services.

The Role

This position offers a strong mix of technical leadership and hands-on engineering. You'll be responsible for defining best practice, influencing technical decisions, and driving improvements across database operations, automation, and platform reliability.

Working closely with engineers, architects, and wider technology teams, you'll provide technical direction while mentoring and coaching a team that is eager to learn and develop. You'll act as the go-to database expert, ensuring systems remain secure, resilient, and scalable as the organisation continues to grow.

A significant focus of the role will be around modernising ways of working through automation, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD adoption, helping drive a more efficient database function.

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of the following experience:

  • Strong experience working with both relational and non-relational database technologies, including MariaDB, MySQL and MongoDB
  • A proven track record of defining and delivering database strategy and technical roadmaps
  • In-depth knowledge of high availability solutions, replication, clustering and disaster recovery
  • Strong database performance tuning and troubleshooting skills across complex environments
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams
  • Hands-on experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Good understanding of CI/CD principles and their application within database environments

What's on Offer

  • Salary up to £105,000
  • Hybrid working model with 2 days per week in the Manchester office
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Enhanced pension contribution
  • The opportunity to influence technical strategy and build a high-performing database capability
  • A business that values technical expertise and invests in its technology teams

If you're a senior database professional who enjoys combining technical leadership with hands-on delivery, and you're looking for an opportunity to make a genuine impact, I'd be keen to speak with you.
