Lead Developer

A major digital consumer-facing platform in Manchester are hiring a Lead Developer to help evolve a live, business-critical technology estate.

This is not a role where you are the unofficial lead picking up the mess, but getting none of the influence. The platform is already live, proven and high-volume. The focus now is on improving performance, scalability, reliability, technical quality and new product capability.

You'll be hands-on across C#/.NET, front-end development, APIs, system design, technical debt reduction and engineering standards, while helping mentor developers and raise the quality of how software is delivered.

The role suits someone who still enjoys coding, but wants more say in architecture, standards and technical direction. You'll be working with established systems, improving legacy areas where needed, and helping the team build cleaner, faster and more maintainable software.

What you'll be doing:

Leading hands-on development across C#/.NET and front-end applications
Improving performance, scalability and reliability across a live platform
Reducing technical debt and improving established systems
Supporting architecture, design decisions and engineering standards
Mentoring developers and leading code reviews
Working closely with Product, QA, Platform Engineering and delivery teams

What they love to see:

Strong C#/.NET experience
Good experience with Web API, REST services and SQL/MySQL
Front-end experience across JavaScript, TypeScript, React or similar
Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns and clean software design
Comfortable improving legacy code and established systems
Experience with messaging, distributed systems, performance optimisation or high-traffic platforms would be useful
