Network Engineer (Telephony / Analogue Services) - 12‑Month Contract (Outside IR35) - Eddinburgh


Rate: £400-£500 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: 12 months
Location: Edinburgh base with travel across Scotland
Expenses: Use of own van required - mileage/travel expensed via Ltd company

Overview

We are supporting one of our main public sector clients with a nationwide programme across a large, multi‑site estate. They require an experienced Network Engineer with strong telephony and analogue line expertise to support infrastructure, service identification and live testing activity across Scotland.

This is a hands‑on, field‑based role, working independently across customer sites while collaborating closely with IT and operational colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, trace and test analogue telephone services across a national estate
  • Maintain accurate records relating to identification and testing activity, reporting back to project stakeholders
  • Identify customer‑premises equipment associated with analogue line delivery and presentation
  • Understand services utilising analogue lines (e.g. alarm lines, lift lines)
  • Trace cabling from supplier/core presentation to endpoint equipment
  • Apply best‑practice testing approaches to live analogue services
  • Troubleshoot physical network site infrastructure issues
  • Support high‑availability network environments

Essential Skills & Experience

  • In‑date Cisco CCNA or CCNP qualification (mandatory)
  • Proven, up‑to‑date hands‑on experience with Cisco equipment including:
    • 2960X / XR
    • 4500
    • 9000 series
    • Nexus switches
  • Experience building, managing and maintaining high‑availability Cisco networks
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across physical network site infrastructure
  • Strong working knowledge of analogue telephony services, including:
    • How analogue services are presented into customer premises
    • Identifying analogue‑related equipment in comms rooms/cabinets
    • Understanding analogue‑dependent services (alarms, lift lines, etc.)
    • Tracing and testing live analogue services safely
