Integration Engineer - API & Enterprise Systems (Contract)

Contract Length: 6 months
Location: UK - based anywhere / Remote

We are seeking an experienced Integration Engineer to support the delivery and long‑term operation of critical enterprise integrations within a retail banking environment. This role is hands‑on and delivery‑focused, with responsibility transitioning into the Run phase as the integration subject matter expert.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain secure, scalable API integrations using REST, OAuth2, webhooks, and asynchronous messaging patterns
• Design and implement integrations using Java and Spring Boot, developing robust integration adapters and services
• Integrate with enterprise platforms such as:
  • Workday APIs (HCM and Talent modules)
  • GitLab APIs (commit and activity data extraction)
  • LMS / training platforms or similar SaaS systems
• Implement reliable data flows including:
  • Data mapping and transformation
  • Error handling and retry strategies
  • Dead letter queue (DLQ) patterns
• Work with AWS messaging services such as SQS and EventBridge
• Support the transition from delivery into Run, acting as the integration SME and providing knowledge transfer to wider teams
• Collaborate closely with product, platform, and operations teams to ensure integrations are supportable and compliant

Required Experience

• 3+ years' experience delivering API‑led integrations
• Strong experience with REST APIs, OAuth2, webhooks, and asynchronous messaging
• Hands‑on Java / Spring Boot experience building integration services
• Enterprise system integration experience (Workday, GitLab, LMS, or similar)
• Strong understanding of integration resilience patterns (retry, DLQ, fault tolerance)
• Experience working in a regulated environment (retail banking or financial services preferred)
