The Role
We are recruiting an experienced Business Analyst to support a major regulatory change programme for a large utilities client. This role will focus on end‑to‑end process identification, requirements gathering, and user journey mapping to support changes associated with Market‑wide Half Hourly Settlements (MHHS).
You will take ownership of understanding, analysing, and documenting current and future business processes, ensuring settlement performance continues to meet evolving regulatory targets. Acting as a key spokesperson for change, you will work closely with Assurance & Regulatory Compliance, Business Change, IT, Project teams, and wider business stakeholders to clearly communicate impacts, risks, and improvement opportunities.
This is a highly business‑facing role suited to an all‑round Business Analyst or service‑design‑oriented professional rather than a purely technical BA.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, analyse, and document end‑to‑end business processes, including as‑is and to‑be states
- Map customer and internal user journeys using visual process mapping tools
- Lead and chair workshops to uncover requirements, pain points, and root causes
- Translate regulatory change into clear, actionable business requirements and process improvements
- Work with data analysts to support root cause analysis, gap analysis, and prioritisation of high‑impact issues
- Collaborate with Business Change and IT teams to define new operating processes and resource needs
- Assess business and IT risks, including data security and GDPR considerations
- Prepare concise reports and communications for stakeholders at varying levels of seniority
- Support scoping exercises to define clear direction, options, cost estimates, and indicative solution timelines
Required Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience as a Business Analyst on business‑critical or regulatory change programmes
- Strong background in process mapping, user journey mapping, and requirements definition
- Proven experience working in a regulated environment (utilities, energy, financial services, or similar)
- Comfortable working across Agile and Waterfall delivery environments
- Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Confident presenting complex business and technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
Desirable Qualifications & Knowledge
- Certified Business Analyst qualification (BCS, IIBA, APMG, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of ITIL
- Experience within the energy or utilities sector, or exposure to industry‑wide regulatory change programmes
- Familiarity with tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Miro, or similar process visualisation tools
