IT Disaster Recovery Lead - Contract (6 Months, Remote)

Location: Remote
Contract Length: 6 Months
Start: ASAP

We're seeking an experienced IT Disaster Recovery (DR) Leader to drive an enterprise‑wide DR transformation across a complex technology landscape. This role requires a proven DR professional with deep technical breadth, strong leadership capability, and the discipline to deliver auditable, sustainable outcomes.

About the Role

You will take full ownership of the organisation's IT Disaster Recovery strategy, ensuring it is comprehensive, tested, and operationally embedded. This is a hands‑on leadership position not a governance‑only role requiring the ability to engage deeply with cloud, on‑prem, and hybrid recovery disciplines while coordinating stakeholders across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the enterprise-wide Disaster Recovery strategy, ensuring alignment with business impact, risk, and regulatory expectations.
  • Lead live DR tests and complex scenario-based simulations (e.g., region loss, data corruption, multi‑system outages).
  • Act as the single accountable owner in a RACI-driven operating model.
  • Design and validate recovery scenarios that test real dependencies, not just technical restore procedures.
  • Drive end‑to‑end programme delivery, including integrated planning, RAID management, executive reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead audit remediation and assurance activities, producing closure-ready evidence for governance committees and Internal Audit.
  • Collaborate across Security, Infrastructure, Business Applications, Internal Audit, Financial Controls, and executive forums.
  • Ensure all DR outcomes are embedded into BAU and operational teams-not just delivered as project artefacts.

Skills & Experience Required

Core Background

  • Experience in IT Disaster Recovery leadership.
  • Background in financial services (ideally) or other large enterprise environments (Global 500, FTSE 100, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Technical and strategic understanding across complex enterprise technology landscapes.

Technical Breadth

  • Cloud DR expertise (Azure and/or AWS) including multi‑region recovery and SaaS recovery principles.
  • Strong working knowledge of on-prem and hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with recovery for Tier 1 applications such as ERP, finance platforms, and key SaaS systems.
  • Deep understanding of backup, restore, failover, and failback design patterns.

Programme & Assurance

  • Proven experience leading audit remediation, assurance programmes, and producing governance‑quality evidence.
  • Ability to operate in regulated or validated environments, understanding the differences between hosted and SaaS recovery controls.
  • High-level programme management discipline: dependencies, milestones, RAID management, escalation, and structured reporting.

What We're Looking For

We're not just seeking a strong DR technologist. we need someone who can ensure the programme lands in an auditable, structured, and sustainable manner. This role will suit someone who is technically credible, influential across a matrix environment, and able to embed long‑term resilience across the business.
