Senior Engineering Manager - London (Contract)

Are you a senior engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of people, strategy and cutting‑edge technology? We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead high‑performing teams working across AI‑assisted development, ML Ops and modern software engineering practices.

This role is ideal for someone who brings deep technical credibility, a strong STEM foundation, and a passion for developing engineering capability at scale.


What you'll be doing

In this role, you'll lead multiple engineering teams delivering AI‑enabled solutions and machine‑learning‑driven products. You'll provide clear direction on technical strategy while supporting day‑to‑day performance, growth and wellbeing across the engineering function. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing engineering teams, with a focus on AI‑assisted development and ML Ops
  • Setting expectations around delivery, quality, engineering standards and long‑term capability building
  • Working closely with stakeholders to prioritise work, plan demand, and allocate resources effectively
  • Ensuring engineering workforce sustainability by improving practices and shaping future capability needs
  • Aligning teams to broader technical strategy and ensuring architectural and engineering decisions stay consistent with organisational goals

What you'll bring

You'll be a hands‑on technical leader with the ability to guide teams, make sound engineering decisions, and influence stakeholders across a wide delivery landscape.

Essential experience:

  • Strong STEM background with deep technical grounding
  • Proven experience managing high‑performing engineering teams
  • Practical experience with AI‑assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Codex, Kite, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of Python, Java or C
  • Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑Learn
  • Strong understanding of ML Ops practices, pipelines and tooling
  • Experience delivering within Agile and DevOps environments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills
