Senior Linux / Unix Engineer

12‑Month Fixed Term Contract | London (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

An opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on Linux Engineer to join a lean infrastructure team supporting business‑critical systems in a BAU‑heavy environment.

This is a replacement hire, ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, stability work, and improving automation within traditional on‑prem estates, with exposure to cloud as the platform evolves.

Key responsibilities

• Support and maintain RHEL and Solaris environments (100-200 VMs)
• BAU support, incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Build, patch, upgrade, and lifecycle management of Linux/Unix servers
• Improve automation and reduce manual operational tasks
• Support infrastructure for critical financial applications
• Participate in occasional weekend project work and a light on‑call rota

Technical environment

• RHEL 7/8/9, Solaris 11
• Ansible automation
• Python and/or Bash scripting
• Docker / Podman containers
• Grafana and monitoring tools
• Predominantly on‑prem, with early AWS adoption underway

Skills & experience required

• Strong senior‑level Linux/Unix administration experience
• Hands‑on experience with Ansible and scripting (Python/Bash)
• Comfortable working in lean teams with high ownership
• Experience supporting production environments and BAU workloads
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred) is beneficial but not essential
