As we reach the end of another great year at Lorien, we wanted to highlight some of the incredible awards and events we’ve been involved with in 2023. Read below to see a round-up of our 2023!

February

With the New Year settled down and welcomed in, we got straight to work  by getting involved in some fantastic events. We partnered with TechGirls, MAMA,codes and Nationwide Building Society to offer coding activities and tech career information to young girls at a workshop hosted in Nationwide’s Post Building – and you can read more about the day here.

We also welcomed James Cook as the Head of Lorien’s Public Sector for England and Wales, to work alongside our established and public sector in Scotland.

February also saw the Lorien team take part in the Race The Thames charity fundraiser, with members of Lorien biking, running and swimming 640km in seven days to raise money for our charity partner Lia’s Wings. The team raised an incredible £1,820; you can see more of our charity initiatives from 2023 here.

March

In March, we took part in three unique and interesting events. First up was TALiNT Partners’ Foresight Summit, with Lorien’s own Annie Smith taking part as a panellist. The event discussed what the future holds for the recruitment market, and the top priorities for recruiters in 2023.

Our second March event was an exclusive TA leaders dinner in London which discussed  the tech talent market, and was hosted in partnership with TALiNT Partners and Eightfold.ai. A host of experts from varying industries attended, and insights from the evening can be viewed here.

We also hosted our annual International Women’s Day celebrations at Lorien HQ, and we celebrated with our STEM colleagues over at Carbon60 and SRG by highlighting the amazing women in our organisations who help to drive change and progress. Lorien’s Sales Director Joanna Fagbadegun also joined a STEM panel to discuss  how women can negotiate workplace success.

May

May saw us sponsoring the SIA – CWS Summit Europe 2023, which was themed; ‘Driving Growth and Change in Uncertain Times’. Our MD David Gettins attended alongside Sales Director Joanna Fagbadegun and Director of Solutions and Insights Darren Topping. As an organisation that prides itself upon driving change, we discussed business needs with many familiar faces, as well as some brand new ones!

We also continued our charitable endeavours well into May, with fearless volunteers from Lorien embarking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of Lia’s Wings. They made a huge difference by raising funds for life-saving hospital transfers for children.

June

We were delighted to be named amongst the 13 Embedded Talent Partner winners at the cord Hiring Leaders Awards. We were named as the 7th Most Responsive, and 5th Fastest to Respond for our work with our clients.

Additionally, we held an event in Leeds specifically designed for CTOs and business leaders to meet and network with others, discussing solutions and insights. We had various global company representatives and the event – the first of its kind for Lorien – was very well received.

In mid-June, we partnered with Signpost Resource Centres and The Advice Store to offer a workshop to job seekers. The event was aimed at applicants who find the process overwhelmingly, with valuable advice on how to overcome blockers. The workshop – again, a first for Lorien - was hosted in Essex, and was subscribed to maximum capacity with attendees giving positive feedback.

July

With awards season in full swing, we were delighted to be shortlisted for three awards in July. We were finalists for RPO of the Year at the APSCo OutSource Awards for Excellence, as well as The Cornerstone Client Service Award, and The Amdaris Long-Term Partnership Award at the TIARA Talent Solutions Awards – and we went on to win one of the three awards later in the year!

We also hosted a STEM Dragon Boat Race alongside sister brands SRG and Carbon60 in aid of Lia’s Wings and other additional charities. Lorien alone raised £755, and the teams showed off their strong rowing skills and competitiveness.

Following on from the success of our Job Seeker Workshop in June, we partnered up with Signpost Resource Centres again to deliver a workshop for school and college pupils aged 13-19, offering helpful tips on CV writing and preparing for an interview.

September

The market returned fresh from a summer break, and so did we with two awards and one event in September. We were awarded The Amdaris Long-Term Partnership Award at the TIARA Talent Solutions Awards for our work with our clients, with our MD David Gettins on hand to accept. Lorien, as part of the Impellam Group, was also recognised as a leader in Contingent Workforce Management and Services Procurement/Statement of Work for the second consecutive year.

We also hosted a virtual roundtable with a focus on strategic workforce planning, with Lorien joined by expert Dave Burrows, founder of Strictly Workforce Planning. The roundtable prompted plenty of interesting discussion, which you can view here.

October

Our October was packed full of events. First up was the IHR Recruitment Leaders Conference in Manchester, which saw Lorien join as a headline partner. We chaired roundtable discussions and shared our latest insights into improving tech hiring. Following this, we hosted a second Tech Leaders Lounge – also in Manchester – attended by the brightest tech leaders, with a focus on today’s tech trends and sharing insights, challenges and solutions.

Our final event of October was the STEM Festival, hosted by Women Leaders at Unity Place in Milton Keynes. The festival allowed us to immerse ourselves in a world of innovation, and engage with the next generation of STEM talent, continuing to inspire the future STEM leaders of tomorrow.

Amongst all the events, we also had the honour of being shortlisted for UK Employer of the Year: Gold 250+ at the Investors in People Awards 2023.

November

November was a big month for Lorien MD David Gettins. Firstly, he was named on the SIA 2023 Staffing 100 Europe list for the second consecutive year, with the list recognising champions of change in the European staffing industry. David also spoke at the SIA’s Executive Forum Europe at the end of the month, where he was joined by other respected industry speakers to discuss opportunities in IT staffing.

In November we also partnered with Coventry Building Society to offer an Intro to Tech workshop. The event was hosted at Coventry Building Society’s head office, and offered an evening of networking, discussion and discovery, with talks from Coventry Building Society leaders.

Our final event of the year was one hosted in partnership with Impellam Group – our Tech and Digital Talent Conference. The event explored the latest tech talent trends, market insights, and the fascinating world of AI and generative AI. Lorien was also joined by AI pioneer Priya Lakhani OBE, who recently hosted a discussion between Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Tech CEO Elon Musk.
