Communications Manager
Location: London (with flexible/hybrid working)
Contract: 5-6 month Fixed-Term Contract Inside IR35

The Role
Our client, one of the UK's major retailers are seeking a dynamic and experienced communications professional to join their fast-paced Corporate Communications team on a short-term contract. This role is pivotal in enhancing and protecting company reputation through proactive storytelling, media engagement, and strategic campaign delivery.

You will play a key role in a small, agile team, working across complex issues and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver clear, consistent, and impactful communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Storytelling: Develop and deliver compelling narratives that communicate the organisation's purpose, plans, and performance to media, stakeholders, and customers.
  • Media Relations: Manage both proactive and reactive media engagement. Act as a trusted contact for journalists, respond to inquiries, build strong relationships, and identify opportunities for positive media coverage.
  • Campaign Management: Support the planning and execution of integrated communications campaigns aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work confidently with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and build advocacy.
  • Agile Working: Operate effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment, managing multiple projects and priorities with attention to detail and accuracy.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in a corporate communications role, either in-house or agency-side.
  • Strong track record in media handling in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics into engaging content.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including experience advising senior leaders.
  • Experience in planning and delivering successful communications campaigns.
  • A proactive, resilient, and collaborative team player who thrives in ambiguity and under pressure.
  • Experience or understanding of financial communications is a plus.
