Q&A with Luke Drage

What has your journey at Lorien been like so far?

My journey has been entirely positive. I’ve been so supported from day one and I’m surrounded by people who have encouraged my learning as I’ve progressed through the ranks and grown as a person. I’ve been here for over a year now and nobody has held me back, I’ve only experienced encouragement.

What was the best quality of the academy?

The learning sessions were very thorough. We had different Lorien employees come in and give session on different parts of the recruitment process, which allowed me to take away so many valuable lessons. Being able to pick a person’s brain outside of the training was also a great quality. Everything, as a whole, was very thorough from start to finish which put us in a good position to succeed immediately.

What is the Lorien workplace culture like?

The culture is supportive, patient, and autonomous. There are no egos here – everyone is approachable and happy to help with anything you need. You can speak to anyone about anything and it’s not pressuring in any way.

What are your top tips for anyone looking to apply for the academy?

You need to come in with an open mind and a willingness to learn. You need to apply yourself throughout and not hold back, whilst putting in the effort during the learning sessions to develop habits that can lead to success early on. When you join a team coming out of the academy, the above will help you.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

On an average day, I’ll be taking care of admin, looking after my candidates and focusing on actively sourcing any roles that I am working on. I also do an hour of business development which involves going on LinkedIn, getting on the phone, and finding people to reach out to. I’ll also typically have a few client meetings mixed in throughout the week.

What is it that drew you to Lorien?

The chance to learn in that academy environment was a huge opportunity as I had no previous recruitment experience. The chance to learn – without being thrown in the deep end with no training – was invaluable and elevated Lorien ahead of some other recruitment agencies. The culture also attracted me as you are treated like an adult and people genuinely care about you and your development.
