Network Administrator
Position Summary
The Network Administrator supports the mission of providing reliable and secure technology services across correctional healthcare facilities. This position is responsible for deploying, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring the organization's network and server infrastructure to ensure consistent access to clinical and administrative systems. The role requires strong expertise in Microsoft Server services, network design, and management of Meraki and Aruba network devices. A key focus is on maintaining compliance with HIPAA and internal security policies while supporting operations in secure correctional environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure across multiple secure facilities to ensure optimal performance and high availability.
- Manage and support Windows Server services, including File/Print Services, DHCP, and Group Policy Object (GPO) deployment and troubleshooting.
- Configure, monitor, and support Meraki and Aruba switches and Meraki wireless access points, including dashboard management and performance tuning.
- Monitor, Acknowledge, and Respond to network alerts for further triage/response.
- Design, document, and maintain comprehensive network diagrams, IP address allocations, and equipment configurations.
- Implement and maintain network security standards consistent with HIPAA and CJIS compliance requirements.
- Perform firmware and software upgrades on network equipment; conduct periodic preventive maintenance and performance reviews.
- Conduct packet capture and analysis to troubleshoot complex connectivity, latency, or security issues.
- Automate network monitoring and alerting to identify and mitigate issues proactively.
- Maintain accurate asset management and inventory documentation for all networking components and software licenses.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for escalated network and infrastructure support issues.
- Utilize the IT service management system to document incidents, changes, and resolutions in accordance with established change management procedures.
- Provide status updates and clear communication to leadership, project managers, and facility contacts during maintenance, outages, or upgrades.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to increase reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Travel to correctional sites for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of departmental goals and mission.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5 years of hands-on experience in network and systems administration within an enterprise or multi-site environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server administration, including File/Print Services, DHCP, and Active Directory management.
- Proven experience with Aruba and Cisco Meraki switching and wireless solutions, including dashboard configuration and monitoring.
- Understanding of routing, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall management.
- Experience designing and documenting network infrastructure using tools like Visio.
- Familiarity with monitoring network device uptime with tools like PRTG.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a secure, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Aruba Certified Switching Associate (ACSA) or higher
- CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent)
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs of equipment.
- May require standing, walking, kneeling, or crawling to access cabling and equipment.
- Prolonged periods of computer-based work.
- Regular travel (up to 15%) to correctional facilities and remote sites for maintenance and support.
- May include work in secure environments and occasional off-hours or weekend assignments for maintenance or emergency response.
