OSP Engineering Technician II
Detroit to Grand Rapids, MI (statewide travel required)
Overview:
We're seeking an experienced OSP Engineering Technician II to support outside plant (OSP) design, inspection, and verification of fiber networks across Michigan. This role combines field and office work-conducting surveys, documenting site conditions, coordinating with contractors and municipalities, and ensuring all work meets safety, quality, and client standards.
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of telecom or utility construction experience (OSP or fiber preferred).
- Experience with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or aerial/underground construction a plus.
- Proficient with GPS equipment, measuring tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maps, and technical specs.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Responsibilities:
- Perform field inspections and verify OSP construction elements (conduit, fiber, splice domes, cabinets, etc.).
- Conduct site and pole surveys using GPS and OSP field equipment to collect accurate utility data.
- Support permitting and right-of-way documentation; attend municipal meetings as needed.
- Maintain detailed field notes, project maps, and construction documentation.
- Partner with contractors to ensure safety, compliance, and quality standards are met.
- Collaborate daily with engineering and project management teams to resolve field issues and track project progress.
- Provide technical field support and customer updates; participate in on-site meetings when required.
- Verify existing plant conditions to determine accurate tie-in points for network extensions.
- Review work completed by peers or subcontractors to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Combination of office, field, and client site work; frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Some overnight travel and overtime (including weekends) may be required (per-diem provided).
