Job Description

We are seeking a Utility Estimator to support a growing backlog of estimating work related to small generation interconnect projects. This role will provide hands‑on estimating support to the estimating team by preparing cost estimates, validating pricing data, and assisting with feasibility and system impact studies across Substation, Transmission, and Distribution projects.

This position is ideal for an estimator with utility experience who is comfortable working independently in WinEst, supporting senior estimators, and managing detailed cost data in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and input estimates into WinEst
  • Develop cost estimates primarily focused on small generation (interconnect) projects
  • Validate material and equipment pricing within the WinEst database and update pricing as needed
  • Research, track down, and confirm material and equipment costs to ensure estimate accuracy
  • Gather available project documentation and create organized folder structures for new estimate requests
  • Prepare feasibility and system impact study estimates for Substation, Transmission, and Distribution projects (to be reviewed and finalized by senior estimators)
  • Upload completed WinEst estimates into the estimating database
  • Validate estimate data accuracy and alignment in Tableau
  • Compile completed project actual costs by type for analysis and upload into Power BI
  • Support estimating process improvements and backlog reduction efforts

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience within a utility, electric power, or T&D environment
  • Hands‑on experience preparing estimates using WinEst
  • Experience with Substation, Transmission, Distribution, or generation/interconnect projects
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage and validate large amounts of cost data
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small estimating team
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working directly for a utility
  • Familiarity with feasibility studies and system impact studies
  • Experience supporting estimating data validation in Tableau or Power BI
  • Local to the Portland, OR area with the ability to work onsite in a hybrid schedule
