Job Description - Test Engineer, Liquid Cooling

Overview

We are hiring a Test Engineer to lead test engineering for liquid-cooled AI, server, networking and storage platforms in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

You will play a critical role in the development, integration and continuous improvement of next-generation compute platforms, including AI/ML, GPGPU, server, networking and storage systems. You will drive product quality, system performance and operational excellence through advanced troubleshooting, automation and team leadership, and join a team that is driving innovation and growth in advanced computing technologies powering enterprise and AI-driven environments.

Key responsibilities

The role combines hands-on technical work across compute hardware and liquid-cooling systems.

Technical leadership and engineering

  • Design, develop and maintain test procedures, test systems, hardware and software for advanced compute platforms.
  • Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations across hardware and software domains.
  • Troubleshoot complex server, networking, storage and accelerator-based systems.
  • Support AI/ML, GPU and high-performance compute platforms through integration and production.
  • Interpret test logs, JSON outputs and system data to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Develop and deploy automation using Python and Bash scripting.
  • Analyze manufacturing and system data using Excel and Power BI.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) readiness and production ramp.

Networking and systems

  • Configure and troubleshoot networking systems (switches, routers, LAN/WAN, Layer 3).
  • Support optical networking technologies (transceivers, fiber optics).
  • Use and train others on Linux command-line tools and scripting.

Liquid cooling and thermal systems

  • Apply heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics principles to liquid cooling systems.
  • Work with pumps, cold plates, chillers, reservoirs, tubing and coolants (e.g. PG25).
  • Use instrumentation including thermocouples, flow meters and pressure sensors.
  • Perform leak detection, material compatibility analysis and coolant safety procedures.
  • Support immersion and direct-to-chip cooling technologies.
  • Work with OCP standards, BMS/SCADA systems and specialized equipment, including particle analyzers, pressure testers and fill/flush/purge systems.

Leadership and operational excellence

Beyond the technical work, the role leads people, aligns test strategy with site goals and drives operational improvement.

Team leadership

  • Lead, mentor and develop Test Engineers and technicians.
  • Recruit, interview and retain top talent.
  • Build training programs and develop team capabilities.

Performance management

  • Set measurable goals aligned with operational and business objectives.
  • Provide coaching, feedback and performance evaluations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in productivity, quality and engagement.

Business and strategy

  • Align test engineering strategy with site and organizational goals.
  • Lead workcell test engineering teams and customer programs.
  • Present technical findings and communicate effectively with stakeholders and customers.

Operational excellence

  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles and quality metrics (yield, GR&R, DPPM).
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through process optimization and automation.
  • Monitor test performance and implement improvements across programs.

Qualifications

Candidates need 5+ years in test engineering, failure analysis or hardware validation in a manufacturing environment, plus advanced Linux and scripting skills.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field (preferred).

Experience

5+ years in test engineering, failure analysis or hardware validation in manufacturing environments, including experience with:

  • Server, networking and storage systems
  • Linux environments and scripting (Python, Bash)
  • High-volume production and NPI support
  • Presenting technical data and leading cross-functional discussions

Required technical skills

  • Advanced Linux command-line expertise
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, Bash)
  • Knowledge of JSON, system logs and automation frameworks
  • Deep understanding of compute architecture and server platforms
  • Networking knowledge (switches, routers, optical systems, IP, Layer 3)
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and statistical analysis skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Power BI

Physical demands

  • Frequent movement, including walking on the manufacturing floor
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (PCs, test equipment)
  • Extended time working on computer systems

Work environment

  • Combination of office and manufacturing floor work
  • Modern, climate-controlled production environment
  • Required PPE: safety shoes, eyewear, hearing protection, ESD vest
  • Moderate noise levels in production areas
