Windows Systems Administrator
We are seeking contract Systems Administrators to support a large-scale enterprise software upgrade initiative for physical security video management servers. The work is focused on executing approved upgrades of existing Avigilon ACC 7 sites to Motorola Avigilon Unity 8, validating successful installation, documenting the completed work, and helping the project team maintain accurate tracking and status reporting.
The primary need is capable Windows Server administration support for a repeatable upgrade process across a large server population. Training on the specific application upgrade procedure will be provided.
The role is well-suited for a motivated early-career or mid-level Windows Systems Administrator who is organized, careful in production environments, able to follow procedures, and capable of resolving routine issues with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Upgrade Execution
Perform Unity 8 software installation and upgrade activities on assigned Windows servers.
Convert existing ACC 7 sites to Unity 8 in accordance with the approved implementation plan.
Perform pre-upgrade checks and post-upgrade validation steps.
Confirm application startup, required services, licensing status, basic connectivity, and expected operational state after the upgrade.
Work carefully in production environments and avoid unnecessary disruption to existing video management operations.
Implementation Planning Support
Review implementation plans, job aids, and deployment checklists before execution.
Help identify missing steps, unclear instructions, prerequisites, or risk areas in the upgrade process.
Provide practical feedback to improve repeatability and reduce deployment errors.
Participate in project readiness reviews and deployment coordination as needed.
Documentation and As-Built Capture
Complete server-level upgrade checklists for each assigned installation.
Capture as-built documentation for the upgraded server and site configuration as required.
Record exceptions, deviations, issues, remediation steps, and final validation results.
Capture screenshots, logs, or other implementation evidence when required by the project team.
Maintain documentation quality suitable for operational handoff, audit review, and future support.
Tracking and Reporting
Update project trackers accurately and promptly as servers move through the upgrade process.
Assist with burndown chart creation and maintenance.
Support recurring status reporting by providing completed work, in-progress work, blocked work, and issue details.
Maintain clear records of upgrade progress, defects, risks, and lessons learned.
Communicate blockers proactively and provide enough detail for the project team to determine next actions.
Issue Handling
Troubleshoot and resolve routine Windows Server and software installation issues.
Review Windows Event Viewer, service status, installation logs, basic network connectivity, disk space, and server health indicators.
Resolve routine issues independently where appropriate.
Escalate complex issues with clear documentation of symptoms, actions taken, evidence collected, and current impact.
Coordinate with EPS IT Support, infrastructure teams, network teams, vendor support, or other stakeholders as directed.
Basic Qualifications
Hands-on Windows Server administration experience, preferably with Windows Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022.
Experience performing software installations, upgrades, and configuration changes in enterprise environments.
Comfortable using Remote Desktop or approved remote administration methods to access servers.
Working knowledge of Windows Services, Event Viewer, local server configuration, disk space validation, and basic server health checks.
Basic familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy concepts, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
Basic PowerShell capability for simple validation, reporting, or troubleshooting tasks.
Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail.
Ability to follow documented procedures accurately and consistently.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision while communicating status and blockers clearly.
Professional judgment and care when working on production systems.
Desired Qualifications
Experience supporting large-scale server application upgrades or migration projects.
Experience with enterprise deployment tracking, implementation checklists, or operational handoff documentation.
Experience using Microsoft Excel for trackers, status reporting, and basic burndown reporting.
Experience with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint for project collaboration and documentation storage.
Experience working in regulated, controlled, or audit-sensitive IT environments.
Familiarity with physical security systems, video management systems, or Avigilon products is helpful but not required.
Experience with Dell physical servers or remote management tools is helpful.
Working Conditions
Hybrid - work performed both remotely and onsite after onboarding.
