Overview
Lorien has an exciting opportunity for a Security Software Engineering Manager to join our client, a leader in the defense technology industry, on a direct hire basis. This position will lead a team responsible for building and scaling security controls that protect critical infrastructure, cloud environments, internal systems, and engineering platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical leadership, software engineering expertise, and hands-on security experience, with the ability to build high-performing teams while driving security initiatives across a rapidly growing organization.
Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Security Engineers focused on infrastructure and platform security.
  • Establish technical direction, engineering standards, and best practices for security engineering initiatives.
  • Drive hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development for team members.
  • Define and execute security roadmaps across infrastructure security, endpoint security, remote access, Zero Trust initiatives, and related programs.
  • Design and implement security controls across cloud environments, production systems, corporate infrastructure, and internal platforms.
  • Build tooling and automation to improve security posture, operational efficiency, visibility, and response capabilities.
  • Conduct security architecture and design reviews for internally developed applications, services, and platforms.
  • Partner with infrastructure, IT, software engineering, and security stakeholders to reduce risk while supporting development velocity.
  • Participate in security incident response activities and help drive long-term remediation and preventive controls.
  • Translate ambiguous business and technical requirements into actionable roadmaps and delivered outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading Security Engineers in a technical, engineering-focused environment.
  • Strong software development experience using languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or similar.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code solutions using technologies such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or equivalent platforms in production environments.
  • Experience deploying and supporting applications through modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security principles and experience securing environments within AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar cloud platforms.
  • Experience implementing security controls across endpoints, internal infrastructure, production environments, and corporate cloud platforms.
  • Experience conducting security architecture reviews and design assessments for custom business applications.
  • Strong understanding of modern threat landscapes, attack techniques, and defensive security strategies.
  • Experience supporting or participating in incident response investigations and remediation efforts.
  • Strong experience working with Linux environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, take ownership of initiatives, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience developing custom solutions, automation, or security tooling within high-growth and technically complex environments preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
