Data Center Technician
Job Summary
Hands-on data center technician supporting live network and transport infrastructure. This role focuses on rack & stack, cabling, break-fix, remote hands, optical testing, and hardware replacement inside large, production data center environments. An execution-focused role for experienced technicians who are comfortable working in live data centers, following MOPs, and supporting customer-facing work.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform break-fix and remote hands support, including nights and weekends as needed
- Rack, stack, cable, label, and decommission data center equipment
- Install and troubleshoot fiber and Ethernet cabling (single-mode, multi-mode, CAT5/6, LC, RJ45, fan-outs)
- Perform optical testing and turn-ups using tools such as OTDR, power meters, and VFL
- Test and troubleshoot 10G and 100G circuits
- Support card-level troubleshooting and hardware replacements
- Follow MOPs, engineering documents, and customer procedures
- Support site audits, cable assignments, and documentation
- Work with AC and DC power, redundant feeds, and ATS systems
- Coordinate with control centers, engineers, and on-site teams
- Provide oversight of 3rd-party vendors when needed
Required Experience
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience working in data center environments
- Experience with rack & stack, cabling, and live hardware support
- Comfortable working with fiber and copper cabling
- Experience performing break-fix and remote hands work
- Ability to read and follow MOPs, diagrams, and cut sheets
- Comfortable working in production data centers without constant supervision
- Strong communication skills & ability to work with customers
- US Citizenship required
Schedule
- Standard hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
- Occasional nights and weekends are required based on customer needs
