Electrical Facilities Technician

Electrical Facilities Technician with Commercial/Industrial electrical systems troubleshooting and maintenance experience in a Data Center and/or Critical Facility environment is needed to support a dynamic fortune 500 company through the operations and maintenance of its mission-critical infrastructure.

The Electrical Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical systems within a high-availability data center/ critical facility environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in electrical engineering principles, hands-on experience with critical power systems, and the ability to lead and coordinate maintenance and operational activities. This is a long-term contract to hire position with the intent to convert to a permanent full-time position.

Responsibilities for the Electrical Facilities Technician:

  • Oversee the daily operations and maintenance of electrical infrastructure including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and associated monitoring systems.
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance programs for electrical systems to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
  • Monitor and analyze electrical system performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support capacity planning and load management to optimize electrical system performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with IT and facility teams to coordinate infrastructure projects and upgrades.
  • Assist in the design, commissioning, and integration of new electrical systems and components during facility build-outs or retrofits.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of electrical systems, maintenance records, and compliance reports.
  • Manage inventory and assets related to electrical infrastructure.
  • Participate in recruiting, training, and mentoring of technical staff.
  • Ensure all customer requirements and service level agreements (SLAs) are met with high-quality service delivery.

Requirements for the Electrical Facilities Technician:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Technical Degree (Military/Trade School) with relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years of electrical systems troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Considered a Plus:

  • 1-2 years of experience in data center engineering or critical facilities operations.
  • Experience maintaining critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems such as chillers, cooling towers.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage cabling (copper/fiber) and network infrastructure.
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) and electrical monitoring tools.
