Data Scientist
Job Title: Data Scientist (Fraud Risk)
Location: San Jose, CA (hybrid)
Contract Type: 12-month W2 contract
Job Duties
- Analyze large datasets to uncover fraud patterns and inform strategy
- Develop Python scripts and predictive models to support fraud mitigation efforts
- Create and refine detection rules for various fraud types
- Investigate complex fraud cases and identify root causes
- Partner with product and engineering teams to improve control systems
- Build dashboards and visualizations to monitor strategy performance
- Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders across the business
- Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement fraud strategies that balance risk mitigation with customer experience
- Deliver real-time, scalable fraud solutions through data-driven experimentation
- Influence business decisions through clear, compelling presentations of analytical findings
- Track and optimize key performance indicators using custom dashboards
- Contribute to a team culture that values curiosity, sharp thinking, and continuous learning
Qualifications
- 2-3+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or risk strategy, preferably in eCommerce, payments, trust & safety, or fraud prevention
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Experience with data visualization tools including Tableau and AWS Quicksight
- Ability to communicate complex insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfort with ambiguity and a knack for turning data into actionable outcomes
- Bonus: Familiarity with fraud typologies, ML collaboration, payment rule systems, or AWS infrastructure
- Experience with data modeling and analytics
- Rule-based strategy development is a preferred skill
- Dashboard creation and KPI tracking (preferred)
- Experience with project management and cross-functional collaboration is preferred
