Lead Service Technician - DC Power

San Francisco region (Stockton, CA)


The Lead/Level 4 Service Technician must be able to perform job duties of a lead installer in a communications and industrial environment. They must have a broad understanding of the DC Power industry as it relates to the three primary markets served by the company (Telecom, UPS, and Utility). This position requires frequent travel on a regular basis, including overnight trips, mostly during the week.

Essential Duties (experience in all required)

  • Work will include installation of batteries and rectifier battery plants (all voltages); ironwork, and cable rack with knowledge of Zone 4 environment requirements.
  • DC power plant upgrades and replacements
  • Primary and Secondary distribution equipment including PBD's, BDFB's, BDCBB's, inverters, and converters.
  • Running of power cable, lug crimping, and lacing.
  • Taking voltage and gravity readings, performing load tests, diagnosing equipment and systems.
  • Preparing test reports; authoring MOPs or other task documentation; completing job related documentation.
  • Reading, understanding, and following standards, specifications, and schematics.
  • Interfacing with customers; and all other duties associated with the installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of DC power.
  • AC power work from 120V 1-phase to 480V 3-phase.

Minimum Skill Requirements:

  • Experience in installation, maintenance, repair, and removal of DC power (4 years minimum for Lead/Level 4).
  • Technical ability to understand and interpret Electrical Codes.
  • Life Safety Codes, NFPA, Uniform Building Codes, and Lighting Systems where applicable.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (i.e., Telcordia, IP72202, TP76300, 77350).
  • An understanding of how a lead acid battery works.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical manuals.
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record required, pass annual drug tests.
  • Job site supervisory experience.

Minimum Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Strength to lift a 50 lb object, without assistance.
  • Strength and dexterity to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, crouch, or twist to reach/and or work with assigned systems.
  • Strength, mobility and dexterity to use small hand and power tools.
  • DOT Medical Qualification Card required.

Job Profile:

  • Shift Times: 1ST: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM (varies depending on travel and customer requirements, night work required, overtime required, weekends occasionally required)
  • Working Environment: Travels to different locations/companies and contends with various working conditions including remote locations, primitive locations, and outdoors.
  • Travel: Frequent travel required, including driving, flying, and overnight stays.

-Travel expenses will be covered on company's behalf.
