OSP Technician II - OKC or Tulsa

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated OSP Technician II to join our team. You will be responsible for the inspection and verification of outside plant fiber networks, ensuring they meet all project requirements and client specifications. You will also play a key role in collaborating with contractors, local municipalities, and internal teams to ensure successful project completion.


  • Conduct regular inspections and verifications of outside plant fiber networks, including conduit, fiber, splice closures, and cabinets.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety, adhering to all OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Perform site visits to document field conditions for new installations and modifications.
  • Liaise with contractors to ensure proper restoration efforts following construction projects.
  • Conduct site and pole surveys using OSP field equipment to gather data on utility pole lines.
  • Work collaboratively with local municipalities to acquire permits and attend necessary meetings.
  • Prepare project documentation and maps and assist in obtaining permits and right-of-way documentation.
  • Foster positive working relationships with colleagues across various departments to address and resolve challenges effectively.
  • Act as a technical resource for internal teams (field support, sales, operations) and provide solutions to their queries.
  • Communicate project progress to customers as needed.
  • Visit customer sites to gather OSP data, evaluate requirements, and maintain consistent communication with their engineering and project management teams.
  • Investigate aerial and underground construction projects to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Attend on-site meetings with stakeholders to explain construction procedures and cable routing.
  • Perform field verifications of existing infrastructure to determine accurate pick-up points for new developments and extensions.

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of GPS principles and proficiency in using GPS equipment, laser rangefinders, measuring tools, and surveying equipment for data collection.
  • Wiring knowledge (electrical, internet, copper).
  • Ability to interpret technical documents like specifications, engineering documents, and construction drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with vendors, customers, permitting authorities, and colleagues.
  • Problem-solving skills to navigate situations with limited standardization.
  • Excellent reading comprehension of construction maps for building fiber networks.
  • Familiarity with GIS is preferred but not required.
  • Comfort using hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and ladders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Ability to review both technical and non-technical aspects of field work and effectively communicate required corrections.
  • Ability to sketch site layouts and surrounding areas, take measurements, and interpret data.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred. Alternatively, 2-4 years of experience in utility construction is acceptable.
  • Prior experience in construction, OSP, telecommunications, cable, or Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) networks is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Previous experience in telecommunications, lease management, or land management is considered an asset.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel and work extended hours, including overtime.
  • Some out-of-town and overnight travel may be required.

Physical Demands

  • The position requires working in various environments, including office settings, field locations, and remote client sites.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and navigate required software programs.
  • Occasional lifting of supplies up to 25 pounds is necessary.
  • Fieldwork will expose you to various weather conditions. You must be able to open locks, gates, and doors, as well as ascend ladders or lift handhole lids to obtain measurements and photographs.
