Lead Engineer for Performance Engineering / Performance Engineering Lead

Our client is one of the UK's leading financial services organisations, who we are supporting in their recruitment for a Lead Engineer - Performance Engineering. This role can be based anywhere in the UK with travel as required.

We are looking a well-established and strong technical leader to be able to lead the area of Technical Performance Engineering. Having systems which are performant, available, and resilient, with clearly understood capacity and headroom for growth is essential to their business. You will provide the leadership to build performance models to identify performance bottlenecks early in development and to focus Performance Testing. We are looking for someone with a passion to provide leadership for other Performance Engineers, for test teams and to champion Performance Engineering as a practice.

The role will lead the refinement of processes, working closely with delivery, Performance Testing, and development of non-functional requirements. Some of the technical resources may be in your line management, but others could be across other areas, so it is important you are able to pull together common working practices into a community of practice.

As Lead Engineer - Performance Engineering, a key part of your role will be championing the need for the appropriate level of Performance Engineering factored into the entire solution lifecycle delivery. ·You will be someone who understands the detail and processes of Performance Engineering, but can also coach and lead teams of Performance Engineers to enable them to scale and strive for consistency. You will hold experience in working closely with senior stakeholders to ensure the right balance to risk and cost when choosing how much modelling or testing to be done to provide the right outcomes.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for experience in the following:

  • Infrastructure design and system performance
  • Application design, deployment, performance characteristics
  • Defining performance models, performance budgets, assessing, and proposing performance improvement and remediation
  • Providing leadership to teams of technical engineers
