Lead SAS DeveloperEdinburgh6 months£550 Inside IR35

We are looking for a Lead SAS Developer contractor to join one of our Public Sector clients on an initial 6-month contract. Based in Edinburgh the role will include a hybrid working model and will fall Inside IR35.

Essential Skills, Competences, Relevant Qualifications, and previous Experience required

Professional/Technical Knowledge in ICT - You must have a minimum of 3 years' experience working as a SAS programmer, including demonstrable knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles and standards for application design, code, build, test and deploy, and the concepts and practices required to implement effective information systems. You will have experience of version control concepts and systems and their effective usage (preference of using Git with Branching/tagging, Pull requests). You will have experience of writing clean, secure code following a test-driven approach.

Programme and Project Management - You should have experience of working in a formal project environment.

Analysis and Use of Evidence - Your experience should include the ability to analyse and consider all information available and fully investigate options before implementing or recommending a solution. You should be able to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders to discuss and gather requirements and be able to explore diverse sources of information and adopt different approaches to deliver products.

  • Self-Management - You must be able to use your own initiative to resolve issues and exercise sound judgement and discretion. You will also require good organisational skills to plan and prioritise work in order to meet timescales, taking into account changing priorities, and ensuring quality is maintained.

  • Must have a current basic Disclosure Scotland Certificate (a copy of which should be submitted along with your CV when applying);

  • Strong experience with SAS 9.4, including excellent SAS programming skills of writing clean, secure code following a test-driven approach, expertise with the SAS Macro Language and understanding of development of stored processes.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles and standards for application design, code, build, test and deploy, as well as experience of version control concepts and systems and their effective usage (preference of using Git with Branching/tagging, Pull requests);

  • Experience of leading the design and implementation of statistical techniques or complex methodologies in SAS would be an advantage and supporting colleagues and the successful delivery of work during a live operation.

  • Demonstrable experience of taking an analytical approach to problems including the ability to identify key issues and to work with others to develop ways in which they can best be resolved.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written and presentation skills.

  • Able to effectively organise and manage own workload and meet exacting deadlines which will result from working in a project environment.

  • Good working relationships with internal and external colleagues at all levels is very important in this role. You will be a team-player, who co-operates with colleagues on areas of work, sharing knowledge and experience where appropriate. In providing communications advice and support, you will be open to different viewpoints, and value the contributions that others make;
  • You must have a strong customer focus that displays an awareness of different customer needs, an understanding of their business requirements, and a desire to respond in a positive and flexible manner. This role will involve frequent contact with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, both internal and external to the client.

Desirable Skills (where appropriate) Experience of working on a census or within a statistical programme environment would be an advantage.
