Java Developer - Move into a Scala or Kotlin Engineer role This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Java Developer to become a Scala or Kotlin Engineer, and work with all the latest supported versions of each. Offering remote working with the odd visit to either their Leeds or London office (1 day a month), these roles are paying between £55k and £84k per annum depending on seniority. THE COMPANY: The country's largest commercial broadcaster who holds one of the UK's leading digital portfolios and is the premier competitor to Sky and the BBC. THE ROLE: You will be joining a team of developers who focus on the systems that handle the "supply chain" for all the broadcaster's digital content. These are composed of three main areas, Metadata, Assets and Content Acquisition and Planning. Each of the teams work with a high degree of autonomy and has the freedom to choose their preferred IDE and development methodology. Key decisions are made at team level, which ensures swift turnaround and agility. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take part in system design and collaborate with other engineers and teams.
  • Ensure a high level of quality, usability, and maintainability of the systems.
  • Proactively identify issues, bottlenecks, gaps, or other areas of concerns.
  • Participate in design and code reviews.
  • Collaborate with other product teams to ensure good cross-product cooperation.
  • Support applications through the full lifecycle, both during development, release, and after release


  • Interest in learning Kotlin or Scala
  • Background in Java software engineering using Java 8 and above.
  • Knowledge of either Spring or Spring Boot.
  • Familiarity with large system software design and development.
  • Experience of building and maintaining quality, standardised, RESTful APIs, and a good knowledge of Microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge and experience of APIs, RESTful services and Microservice Architectures.
  • Understanding of the value of continuous integration, continuous delivery and strives for a high level of automation.
  • Knowledge of testing techniques and strategies.
  • Experience or interest in Infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code
