We are recruiting for a Devops Engineer with a proven background of using Terraform to deliver infrastructure as code, but also someone who can help to build tooling standards.

This will be on an initial 6 month contract, remote working with occasional travel to London and Outside IR35.

Role Description

We are looking for a contract Development Operations Engineer (DevOp) to help us with this, ideally someone who has used Terraform to deliver infrastructure as code, but also someone who can help to build tooling standards. We need someone who is passionate about building repeatable services within AWS, that goes beyond just deployment and extends to a knowledge of configuring the right tools required to drive efficiency, and who drives automation. You will be used to driving predictable, and repeatable results that will delight our customers. As a DevOps Engineer, your role will be integral in managing our AWS-based infrastructure and automating our operational processes. Your responsibilities will span across AWS cloud service management, CI/CD pipeline integration, domain purchasing, SSL certification management, DNS updating, and creating relevant documentation.

Key Deliverables.

  • Assist in maintaining our AWS-based CI/CD pipelines, adhering to our DevOps principles and methodologies.
  • Support our AWS infrastructure, focusing on performance optimization, scalability, and security.
  • Leverage AWS services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies to automate repeatable tasks.
  • Complete requests for domain purchases, SSL certifications, and DNS updates.
  • Consume and customize IaC modules provided by our cloud platform team, to deliver automated infrastructure solutions to our business clients.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and streamline deployment processes within AWS.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure efficient AWS operations and promote a culture of shared responsibility.
  • Create and maintain AWS-focused technical documentation that aligns with our business principles.
  • Keep abreast of the latest AWS developments and industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

An ideal candidate will have 5+ years' experience in DevOps (or platform management) and will have a strong understanding of platform frameworks using EC2, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies as well as the delivery of infrastructure as code. Ideally you will have had significant exposure to the deployment of tooling used to manage, monitor, and maintain cloud environments and will have experience of instrumenting applications and infrastructure.

In addition to this we are looking for someone who has experience of building tooling integrations to optimise workflows and drive the performance of operational and development teams. The position requires strong technology skills, and you must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing architects, engineers & managers that work within the client's broader operating divisions. You should be able to evidence where you have been successful in a similar role and be willing to provide examples at interview.

Experience

  • Background in both Systems and Software engineering
  • Experience of managing Cloud infrastructure, and instrumentation at scale, ideally within but not limited to Amazon Web Services
  • You should have experience in designing, automating, maintaining, and optimizing observability platforms (logging, metric and tracing)
  • Abreast of industry standards and trends related to telemetry and software pipelines
  • Experience rationalizing and implementing monitoring and observability toolchain
  • Previous experience in public clouds (AWS preferred, but others considered)
  • Knowledge and experience of containers and Kubernetes clusters, as well as Lambda.
  • Hands on experience consolidating application and system logs at scale
  • Strong coding skills, Terraform, New Relic Query Language, and process automation tools such as "Go", "Run deck", and "Tray.IO"
  • Ability to collaborate with, and influence stakeholders at all levels to gain alignment of business or technology goals.

Qualifications

  • AWS certification or qualifications with other cloud vendors.
