Technical Project Manager in Financial Services

Top tier management consulting firm seeks to recruit a technical project manager to work closely with their financial services clients to shape and lead technology-enabled business change engagements. This means shaping projects and programmes and then delivering them through the full business change lifecycle using the best-fit approach, e.g. scaled agile, scrum, waterfall etc., or a hybrid version.

The ideal candidate will have some project management experience, having led teams or technology enabled projects. You may have started by working in a project management office as a way of gaining understanding of the complete business change life cycle from feasibility through to project definition, mobilisation, development (analyse / design / build / test activities), and then on to transition.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead small teams to successfully deliver defined change projects or sub-projects involving technology, data and business change.
  • Co-ordinate team tasks and activities, managing to deadlines, anticipating challenges, difficulties and pressure points
  • Identify and support the mitigation of delivery risks, as well as facilitating the resolution of issues / blockers
  • Work effectively with a range of stakeholders across business, technology and data teams in large banking organisations.
  • Understand the differences between different project / programme delivery structures and governance models
  • Manage project / sub-project scope and operate established change control processes
  • Manage project costs, including the establishment of baseline costs and tracking, and contingency planning

Essential skills:

  • Core understanding of the systems development lifecycle for waterfall and agile projects
  • Core understanding of project management, client relationship management, stakeholder engagement
  • Familiarity with business analysis artefacts (including requirements definition, process mapping, operating model definition) and delivery concepts like systems integration, systems implementation, testing and release management
  • Exposure to business / application architecture artefacts, solution definitions, integration architectures
  • Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities
  • Understanding of how complexity and ambiguity impact how projects are managed
  • Confident in managing team members and dealing with client stakeholders
