Operations Engineer - Infrastructure/Networking

Rightmove are currently the UK's largest online property portal, their Infrastructure team are responsible for the core infrastructure and cloud platforms that underpin Rightmove.co.uk, ensuring that the website is available, secure and performing to a world class standard.

This position is for an Operations/Infrastructure Engineer who has solid networking skills and experience (Brocade/Juniper/Cisco) covering switching, routing (OSPF and BGP) and security, who has also worked in a Linux or Unix environment.

Responsibilities

  • Working on internal projects such implementing new technologies, migrating services from legacy to new technology, or maintaining and improving existing technology
  • Working with development teams on various tasks to enable continuous delivery such as building microservices
  • Building infrastructure as code modules to develop and optimise our cloud platforms
  • Responding to incidents and resolving problems as they arise, working across both 3rd party vendors and the development teams
  • Observing and highlighting areas which could be improved with automated tasks to better support business needs, and implementing solutions for these
  • Managing vendors and remote hands for the installation and maintenance of datacentre infrastructure and hardware

Experience required

  • Solid networking skills and experience (Brocade/Juniper/Cisco) covering switching, routing (OSPF and BGP) and security
  • General Linux/Unix networking and administration skills
  • Knowledge of how the internet / websites work - HTTP, DNS and the TCP/IP protocol stack
  • Has strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to work on-call on a rotating schedule
  • Experience with traffic management/load balancing using either software or hardware products (ideally with F5 BigIP but equivalent products would be fine)
  • Scripting skills using Bash (Python would also be nice to have)
  • Configuration management e.g. Puppet, Ansible
  • Experience with monitoring, logging and alerting tools
  • Version control skills with Bitbucket and Git
  • Excellent understanding of security controls and risk in relation to web services
